Tony, the original Marfa Dog and never-ending source of inspiration.

Pat Meckfessel relocated to the West Texas border in 2016 by way of New York City and Dallas. With a Bachelor of Science from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from FIT, she practiced as a licensed interior designer for over 30 years. Now she is a full-time artist, doing what she always wanted to do. Her work focuses the flora and fauna of West Texas, as well as on personal life experiences such as visits to World War I battlefields.
Past shows include Desert Muse at Marfa Studio of Arts, Lone Star Art Show in Dallas, and featured interviewed artist at Gallery On The Square/Big Bend Arts Council in Alpine. One of her pieces was chosen for the Art In The Time of Crisis Show at the Wallach Gallery in New York City, April 2021.

In 2022, at the tail end of the COVID crisis, the artist and her family drove around northern France and Belgium, focusing on visiting various historic European battlefields. Included among those were Verdun and the Somme. Once stark scenes of savagery, the battlefields are now mostly farms and meadows, interlaced with ruins of forts and trenches. But a consciousness of what happened there infuses everything.
This series of paintings, (shown later on this website) reflects the artist's search for a deeper understanding of the First World War, combining her research, her firsthand perception, and her surprise at finding beauty in what is inherently haunting.

JEFF - AKA Marfa Dog 2. My ever-present studio buddy. He speaks several languages and is not afraid to offer criticism of what is on the easel.
